Health care is sacred work.
Scripture declares that death is an enemy to be defeated. Life is good, worth living, and made abundant in Jesus. To contribute to the healing of physical, mental, and spiritual disease is to participate in the work of Christ. To walk with others in the shadow of death, through sorrow and pain – to serve and heal and minister to them – is to know Jesus better, for he left the comfort of heaven to share in our suffering, joys, and griefs.
It is a privilege to be a healer.
And it is hard.
Those who work in health care can easily become overwhelmed, burned out, and out of balance themselves. There is no end of suffering. Spiritual, mental, and relational brokenness that contributes to ill health cannot be easily cured healed with medicine or surgery. We also get sick. Our patients sometimes die.
1) It seeks to restore people to the wholeness God intends for everyone – it is holy, and beautiful, and worth doing well.
2) It cannot be done alone – health care workers need professional, spiritual, and personal communities to support them in both working and resting.
3) It is complimentary to the Gospel – health care provides unique opportunities to minister to the spiritual as well as the physical needs of others.
4) It is complex – teaching us humility and reliance on God.
Healing the sick is a complement to sharing the Gospel. In Luke 9:2 Jesus equips his disciples to do both. Explore the options to the right to learn more about how HarvestCall is encouraging, equipping, and engaging medical workers in the mission and ministry of health care.
