Forty Volunteers Needed per Week
Beginning on January 11th forty volunteers are needed each week to serve in the HarvestCall Rebuilding Ministry. Both skilled tradesmen and unskilled workers are needed. There is an opportunity for every willing heart to serve in this ministry. All volunteers are limited to one week to give more people an opportunity to serve. Skilled construction workers will provide leadership for volunteers on the work sites. HarvestCall tool trailers and vehicles will be on site throughout the term of the project. The work will include all phases of house construction from framing and roofing to painting and cleaning.
Damaged houses will be repaired and destroyed houses will be rebuilt. The Gospel message will be proclaimed as Christ’s love is shared with those we serve in His name. We have the opportunity to be His hands and feet as we minister to those whose lives have been turned upside down resulting in hopelessness, frustration and despair. The homeowners need to know that we care and most importantly that God cares. Serving from a posture of humility is of utmost importance.
Participation Guidelines and Waivers for Volunteers
Please refer to “Guidelines for Work Teams” for information regarding participation in this rebuilding ministry. Each volunteer will be required to sign the “Wavier and Release of Liability” form at registration. These forms will be available at camp. Please go to this link in our Resources section which contains numerous documents for Team members.
Health and Wellness Concerns
Each volunteer is requested to evaluate their own personal health before traveling to Louisiana. If you are not feeling well or are experiencing fever or other flu-like symptoms, please do not come. Our desire is to protect the health of our long-term team, those we are serving and the other volunteers. Thank you for your understanding and support in this effort.
Volunteer Housing/Housing Option
Volunteers will be housed in dormitory style housing at Acadian Baptist Center. There are accommodations for both men and women. Accommodations at the camp are available Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon. All meals will be provided either at the camp or on the job site beginning on Sunday evening. Volunteers should plan to depart by 5:00 pm on Friday. Weekends are used to prepare for the incoming team.
All volunteers will be staying in the provided dormitory style housing unless you choose to stay in the hotel on campus. If you choose to stay in the hotel, you are responsible for the cost as well as making your own arrangements by calling (337) 457-9047. Those choosing hotel accommodations should relay their intentions to Barb Slagel via email - slagelachc@gmail.com – at least two weeks prior to their scheduled arrival date.
Food
A central kitchen/dining area will serve as the focal point of activities. Delicious home cooked meals will be served each day of the week beginning on Sunday evening through Friday morning breakfast. Brown bag lunches are carried to the job each day.
What to Bring
Please bring twin sheets with a pillowcase, a towel and washcloth. We will provide bunk beds with a thick mattress, a blanket and pillow. Bring a jacket/hoodie and plan to dress in layers as the temperatures will fluctuate during the day.
For those flying and have limited luggage space we do have some supply of sheets, towels and pillowcases on hand.
Weekly Check-in/Orientation Schedule
Registration at Acadian Baptist Center will begin at 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon. Please do not arrive earlier than 3:00 pm. A worship service will be held at 4:00 pm followed by dinner at 5:30 pm and orientation immediately following dinner. All volunteers should make plans to be present for church, dinner and orientation.
Airport Transportation
Airport Shuttle for Sunday
Transportation will be provided from/to Lafayette Regional Airport in Lafayette Louisiana. A HarvestCall shuttle will pick up at 2:30 pm CST on Sunday for transport to Acadian Baptist Center. If you need transportation from/to Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT) please send travel details via email at least one week prior to your arrival to Barb Slagel at slagelachc@gmail.com so we can save you a seat on the shuttle.
Airport Shuttle for Friday
On Friday afternoon, there will be one shuttle to Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT) that will leave the camp at 1pm with arrival time at LFT at 1:50pm. If you are using the shuttle to return to Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT) please book your return flight to fit into this schedule! No other shuttle will be going to Lafayette Regional Airport or any other airport on Friday.
If you choose to fly out on Saturday you will ride the same shuttle on Friday afternoon that will make the only trip to Lafayette Regional Airport. It will make a stop at the Wingate by Wyndham Lafayette Airport at 702 East Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette, LA, 70508. Phone (337)234-3700. This will be the only hotel we will be stopping at to drop off volunteers. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport. (LFT)
Please send travel details via email at least one week prior to your arrival to Barb Slagel at slagelachc@gmail.com so we can save you a seat on the shuttle.
You are responsible to make your own travel plans if different than the arrangements outlined.
To Register
If you are interested in serving in the Rebuilding Ministry, please check the Acadian Parish Louisiana Rebuilding Ministry Registration Schedule for available dates and fill out all of the information requested. By signing up you are committing to a five-day work week – with a Friday afternoon 2pm stop working time, unless you have the airport shuttle to catch. If the week you want is full - put your name on the wait list. This is the only way we know you have a desire to serve and is the only way that you have an opportunity to go to Louisiana to volunteer.
All volunteers will be limited to one week to give opportunity for others to serve.
We are using a third party event registration system called Eventbrite to help us better manage waiting lists. Clicking the appropriate button below will take you to that site where you will register. The number of available spots will be visible in the registration system.
The difference you can make: watch a homeowner's testimony from the 2021 rebuilding ministry.
